Head of Product — Water Filtration

Element

A water filtration company rebuilt from its regulatory bones outward — a deliberate refusal of an industry that sells a spec sheet and lets fear do the rest of the persuading. Proof arrives before promise: every claim traces to a test, every image to a CAD file, every price to a model the company built itself.

Overview

Element is a water filtration company rebuilt from its regulatory bones outward, a deliberate refusal of an industry that typically sells a spec sheet and lets fear do the rest of the persuading. Taking on the role of Head of Product meant treating credibility itself as something to be manufactured before it could ever be marketed: brand identity, a fully CAD-modeled product range, an independent testing programme built from scratch, financial modeling sturdy enough to survive scrutiny, and a digital storefront to hold it all together, sequenced deliberately so that proof arrived well before promise rather than trailing behind it as an afterthought. Every filtration claim the brand makes traces back to a test the company ran itself, every catalogue image traces back to a CAD file the company modeled itself, and every price point traces back to a financial model the company built and stress-tested itself, an unusually thorough chain of custody for an industry accustomed to skipping most of those steps. The relaunch also birthed a subsidiary company, extending the range architecture and rollout strategy developed for the parent brand into new commercial territory, proof that the underlying method scaled rather than remaining a one-off exercise in discipline.

Motivation, Ethos & Inspiration

The governing argument is almost economic in its severity: a brand is downstream of what a product can prove, and any identity built ahead of that proof is decoration on a claim nobody has tested yet. Rather than start with a logo, the project started with a testing regime and a CAD catalogue, treating design as the last discipline to arrive rather than the first, because aesthetics without evidentiary weight is exactly the trick that lets an unremarkable filter compete against a remarkable one.

Tools, Skills & Software

Product architecture and CAD modeling in Fusion 360, brand and range visualization in Blender, interface and identity work in Figma, and the commercial build-out in Shopify, all backed by regulatory testing protocols and financial modeling used to price the range and plan its rollout, including the launch of a subsidiary company.
